Episode 7

The older we get, the tireder and tireder we become. If we let weariness and discouragement rule us, we will give in and accomplish what God calls us to. The Bible uses the analogy "droopy hands" to describe this status. This podcast includes the secret for where we get more strength from.

In the last few episodes we’ve talked about health of body parts, which is good because as we get older more parts don’t work 

  • Episode 5: the heart and how to cure bitterness there.

  • Episode 6: strengthen our knees to run with endurance.

Today, we discuss our hands.

Hebrews 12:12 Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees. NASB translate it as strengthen the hands that are weak 


Biblical Examples

Jeremiah

Jeremiah describes the people he prophesied to, as they wilted under difficult times.

  • Jeremiah 47:3b, NASB: "The fathers have not turned back for [their] children, Because of the limpness of [their] hands,” 

Isaiah

Isaiah prophesied about 100 years before Jeremiah to the northern Kingdom. 

  • Isaiah 35:3-4 ESV- Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, "Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you."

Nehemiah

70 years after the dads-too-weak moment from Jeremiah, Nehemiah tries to encourage the Israelite captives returning to Jerusalem.

  • Nehemiah 6:9a NASB: "For all of them were [trying] to frighten us, thinking, "They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be done. But now, [O God,] strengthen my hands. [Nehemiah 6:9b, NASB]

Where Nehemiah found his own strength:

  • Nehemiah 8:10: Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

The result:

  • Nehemiah 6:15-16 NASB: So the wall was completed ... When all our enemies heard [of it,] and all the nations surrounding us saw [it,] they lost their confidence; for they recognized that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.

God is not surprised that we’re not sufficient for our tasks.

  • 2 Corinthians 3:5: Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God,

Where Does The Strength For My Hands And Knees Come From?

  • Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

  • Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.

  • Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  • Exodus 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.

  • Isaiah 30:15 For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength."

  • Psalm 118:14 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

  • Psalm 28:7-8 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

The strength of Lord lifts our hands

The strength of the Lord makes our knees firm

The strength of the Lord breaks the bonds of bitterness.
