Day 12: REMEMBERING God Is Our Salvation
EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP
…my God, my ROCK, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my SALVATION, my stronghold and my refuge, my SAVIOR; you SAVE me from violence. ... "The LORD lives, and blessed be my ROCK, and exalted be my God, the ROCK of my salvation. 2 Samuel 22:3, 47 ESV
REMEMBER VERSE
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 ESV
DEVOTION
Does salvation ever feel murky to you? I MEAN, how in the world can we be saved when we still sin so much? How can loved ones act like such stinkers and still be saved?
Those questions could make the most assured Christian doubt her salvation. Maybe that’s why Paul REMINDED the Corinthians to HOLD FAST to their ROCK. Those early Believers needed to REMEMBER the gospel to stand in confidence on the Rock. And we must do the same thing. Salvation depends on “my God, the ROCK my salvation,” not on me, and your salvation doesn’t depend on you.
There’s nothing wishy washy about my ROCK. While my sinful, made-of-clay, want-to-run-from-the-fight feet are planted on Him alone, my salvation is more solid and dependable than the Rock of Gibraltar. The ROCK SAVES me and offers refuge. He is my stronghold and He is alive!
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith." Romans 1:16-17 ESV
PRAYER: Thank You for the gospel— the act of salvation You completed on the cross. Thank You that my salvation rests on Your solidity and not on my flakiness. I exalt Your blessed name.
This Jesus is the STONE that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the CORNERSTONE. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be SAVED.” Acts 4:11-12 ESV
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for Your salvation. You alone save. There is no other way and no other way to be saved. I praise You for You indescribable gift.
QUESTIONS
Think about the Rock of your Salvation, and how His salvation gives you refuge, is your stronghold, and shields you. Does that expand your understanding of what your salvation is? Write out your thoughts.
What does it mean to you to stand on the Rock of your salvation?
CHALLENGE
Tell someone the story of how the Lord saved you.
Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! Psalm 31:2 ESV
