Day 11: REMEMBERING Jesus Is Our Cornerstone

31 DAYS REMEMBERING GOD-9.png

EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP

As you come to him, a living STONE rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, ... For it stands in Scripture: "Behold, I am laying in Zion a STONE, a CORNERSTONE chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." 1 Peter 2:4, 6

REMEMBER VERSE:

This Jesus is the STONE that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the CORNERSTONE. Acts 4:11

DEVOTION

A building’s CORNERSTONE is the most important piece of the foundation, and in ancient times, the size and weight required great effort to set it correctly. The first stone, its placed at the corner, establishing the correct angles of the structure, all other stones of the masonry construction are laid in reference to it.

What a picture the Lord paints for us when He declares Himself the CORNERSTONE.

We risk rejecting Him when we try to decide for ourselves the way we should go, if we don’t REMEMBER the preeminence He deserves as our CORNERSTONE, we might place ourselves in that position.

But He alone merits first placement in our lives. All decisions and life directions should be based on Him. Our everything should be determined by Him!

  • So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the CORNERSTONE, Ephesians 2:19-20

  • PRAYER: Jesus, I submit the direction my life will take to You. I don’t want to build on myself, but instead on You and the teachings of the Word.

  • in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:21-22

  • PRAYER: Oh Jesus, without You being the foundation, I would fall apart. I give myself to You to use in any way You please to build Your Kingdom. I am Yours. Please shape me to Your will.

QUESTIONS:

How does the picture of Jesus as your CORNERSTONE affect decisions you need to make?

Meditate on the word picture of Jesus as our CORNERSTONE. What areas of your life you need to realign to Him?

1 Peter 2:6 calls our CORNERSTONE “chosen and precious.” What areas of your life reflect the precious value of our Lord? Spend a few minutes thanking Jesus for the direction He gives you.

CHALLENGE:

1 Peter 2:4 says Jesus is the STONE rejected by man. Ask the Lord to reveal to you areas where you reject His Lordship. When He reveals those (and we all have them, so don’t ask unless you really want to know!) you are going to have decide— are you going to do things His way?

…therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am the one who has laid as a FOUNDATION in Zion, a STONE, a tested STONE, a precious CORNERSTONE, of a sure FOUNDATION: 'Whoever believes will not be in haste.' Isaiah 28:16
