The term empty nest feels bad. Synonyms for empty: void, bare, vacant, hollow, meaningless.

How depressing. Let’s redefine our nest. I like words. If I can come up with sayings or guide words, I have a much easier time continuing down the path.

So, what words can we replace for EMPTY in the Empty Nest?

  • Efficient

  • Spacious

  • Creative

  • Cozy

  • Comforting

  • Inviting

  • Foundational: full of memories, love, security

Our nests can be places of comfort and welcome to a disconnected world.  Places of productivity and creation.

I’ll keep using the term empty nest, because people know what that means. But that’s not how I think of my nest, and not how you should think of yours.

One of my favorite verses on the home:

It’s time to share all the precious and pleasant riches of knowledge and understanding that living with Jesus has taught us.

Our nests are our launch pad for ministry.

What word would you use?
