Episode 11

Jesus asks His disciples a hard question: Do you not YET see and understand? I think for those of us who’ve walked with Jesus a long time but still struggle with faith and believing and hoping, He might ask us the same thing. But it's time for us to finally, really SEE! Last week in episode 10 I shared about the healing of the blind man in Mark 8. Then, this week, I happened to be in Mark for my Quiet Timend a whole new application came to me from this story. 

Remember: healing didn’t all happen at one. Needs two touches.

Mark 8

• Second miraculous feeding

• Argue with pharisees. 

  • Jesus response: sighs deeply in spirit: why does this generation seek for a sign?

• Set off in boat w/disciples and no one brought lunch.

  • They argue while he’s trying to give them a lesson (Maybe they were Spiritually Hangry?)

  • Verse 17: do you not yet see or understand?

  • Verse 21: do you not yet understand?

It’s time for us to start seeing. Jesus is in the boat with us. In our lack. In our hard. In our happy. Jesus as our greatest gain.

The NEXT THING is the blind man healing.

• Maybe most of us meet Jesus and get a little bit of Him and decide that’s enough.

• We never start SEEING.

• I’m too old to be satisfied with that. With putting up with “seeing people like trees.”

• I want clarity. I want crystal clear vision.

• I want to stop missing Jesus.

This chapter goes on and Peter declares Jesus is Messiah. But when Jesus starts teaching of His suffering to come, Peter REBUKES and gets rebuked.

• Not SETTING MIND ON GOD’S interests, but on man’s.

And then Jesus give us our prescription. For new, amazing glasses to SEE EVERYTHING!

• Set mind on God’s interests

• Decide to follow after Him

  • Deny yourself

  • Take up cross

  •  Follow Him

  • 35: HOW TO SEE! I DON’T HAVE TIME TO WASTE

    • Save my life: lose it

    • Lose my life for Jesus’s sake and for the gospel: SAVE IT!

• Am I going to gain the world at the expense of my soul?

Prayer for Clarity:

Jesus, I can’t see clearly. I see things that need to be done, but it’s like trees moving and I can’t discern what You want next. I submit myself to You. I don’t want to be satisfied with a half healing any more. I want to see. Believe. Follow. And lose my life in You!
