EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP

When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of ROCK, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD made with you, … And the LORD gave me the two tablets of STONE written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words that the LORD had spoken with you … the tablets of the covenant. Deuteronomy 9:9, 10a, 11b

REMEMBER VERSE

"REMEMBER the WORD that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, 'The LORD your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.' Joshua 1:13

DEVOTION

The Law can’t save me. I can’t work my way into God’s good favor. I am saved by the Blood of Jesus, not my obedience. Yes. Amen. And hallelujah.

BUT- does it follow that The Law is a burden? Should we be grateful Jesus freed us from its “oppressive” requirements? No. Never. And baloney.

EVERY precious Word of our Lord gives life, from Genesis to Revelation. He gifted His Law for His people’s good. It blesses families and communities. It provides the foundation for our Savior.

Following God’s commands won’t save me, but it will bless my family. It will cause my eyes to see beyond my own needs. It will keep me from hurting others by acting wrongly. It will cause me to look to the needs of the poor.

Someone else’s misuse of Scripture doesn’t justify my ignoring His Commands. The sin of God’s people doesn’t alter a letter of His Word. I must REMEMBER: God gave the Law and every word in Scripture as a gift of blessing and guidance.

I must never forget to study and do what He says.

• Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel. Malachi 4:4

• PRAYER: Thank You Lord for giving the Law, every, single Word. Your detailed care of our lives blesses us.

• …I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Matthew 5:17b-18

• PRAYER: Thank You Jesus for confirming the priority of every Word. Help me build my life on Your truth, throwing off anything that doesn’t conform with You.

QUESTIONS

How have the Ten Commandments blessed you?

Write out some of your favorite Scriptures. Work to memorize them and then share them with someone else.

As we wander away from God’s standards do you see harm to our communities?

CHALLENGE

Memorize the Ten Commandments. Even “knowing” them, it’s hard to state them word for word and in order. But since God commanded us to REMEMBER, we should!
